We live in a world with way too many options and choices. Since we have so many options, choosing a career or profession can be quite cumbersome and daunting. Back in the day, there were few jobs or professions to choose from, except the traditional ones such as teacher, doctor, lawyer, nurse, servant, cleaner, government worker, fisherman, etc. Or you would develop a skill or specialized trade and would make your money independently as e.g., a trader, merchant, painter, writer, musician, or carpenter. But times have changed. Many professions have become outdated, irrelevant, and automated. With today’s economy and the rise of innovative technology, new ones have replaced these outdated professions. This means new doors have opened to have an income and not just limited to one. Instead, these days you can make money through various ways which enable you to have multiple streams of income. Although many doors have opened, it also means lots of jobs to choose from, which can be confusing.
That said, switching jobs, professions or careers has become part of life, so you cannot expect someone to be in one career or doing one job their entire life. Obviously, some people know what they want from the get-go and thus find a job they enjoy doing for a long time, but others may find it challenging to find something that not only pays the bills but also makes them content in the long run. There are many factors to consider when choosing a career or profession. Not everyone is that lucky to do something they enjoy, no matter your location. But if you have the option to choose a professional path or an area of specialization or you want to make a career switch and don’t know which direction you should go, then numerology can be of help.
But where to look since there are so many numbers in numerology? Well, I live a simple life and like to keep things simple, so I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to delve into all these complicated numbers to choose your next job, profession, or career path. To discover your talents and skills and find out which area you can excel in (so you can make some money and live your life), you only need to analyze the following three numbers: your Life Path number, Birthday Number, and Expression number.
Why these three? Keep on reading!

Life Path Number (a.k.a. Destiny Number)
Your Life Path number is the first number in your numerological birth chart and is also considered the most important one. It is the number that gives you a general, yet superficial overview of the type of life you are destined to live and the lifestyle you may experience in this birth provided that you align yourself with the energetic vibrations of this number.
This number reveals the path chosen for your soul to experience so that you can develop and grow yourself further in this lifetime. This chosen path is based on your actions and the lessons accumulated from a past life or several past lives. So if, for example, you’re a Life Path 8 (ruled by Saturn), then now you are here to learn new lessons, improve yourself, take up new challenges, and seize the new opportunities that correspond with the energies of this number. Your Life Path number simply describes who you are and how you behave, more so, from the outside. It describes how others may perceive and view you. It also reveals your unique characteristics, behaviorism, strengths, weaknesses/areas of development, capabilities, and possibilities in life. Thus, if you want to understand why you were born, why you are here, and where you should go, then your Life Path number could give you some clues to work with, and a direction regarding the path you should follow in order to reach your soul’s destiny. Hence, in Chaldean or Indian numerology, the Life Path number is better known as the Destiny number.
Your Life Path number can also reveal how you would make a living, and what skills you can develop to be in a certain profession. For instance, if you’re a Life Path 1, you came into this life to lead, pave the way for others, and further develop your leadership skills. Oftentimes, you would find someone with a Life Path 1 in a position of authority with lots of responsibilities and perhaps managing a team–be it a supervisor, coach, manager, director, VP, or even a CEO. A Life Path 1 could also work as an independent business owner, contractor, or freelancer. But to get a stronger sense of your career direction, job, and profession, it is very important that you look at your other two core personal numbers as well, which I will explain next.
Side note: To calculate your Life Path number, you need your full date of birth. It is the sum of all your numbers that make up your date of birth, which you then have to reduce until you have a single digit between 1 and 9 unless it’s a Master Number 11, 22, or 33.

Birthday Number (a.k.a. Psychic Number)
Your Birthday (or Birth Day) number is, besides your Life Path, the second most important number. The name already says what it is; the day on which you were born. This could be, for example, the 1st, 2nd, 15th, or 25th of any month. Your Birthday number can influence you on a mental, emotional, and psychological level. In Chaldean or Indian numerology, the Birthday number is better known as a Psychic number. Your birthday number can tell you a lot about your unique talents, including those behavioral/personality traits that come naturally to you. It represents your inborn qualities. So whatever natural talent you possess (or may not even be aware of), know that this may come from your Birth Day number.
Side Note: You don’t have to calculate a birthday number unless it is a double-digit, which you have to reduce down to a single digit. For example, if you are born on the 25th, then you possess special qualities pertaining to the number 7, because 2 + 5 = 7 (influenced by Ketu), and to a lesser extent you may have inherited traits, or possess talents in relation to the number 2 (Moon) and 5 (Mercury) as well. But if you are born on the 6th of the month, for example, then you may consider yourself as someone who has unique Venusian qualities (pertaining to the planet Venus), such as being service-oriented, people-oriented, compassionate, empathetic, dedicated, attentive, creative, and artistic.

Now, let’s move on to the third and final number you need to discover your professional path.
-
Expression Number
Your Expression number is, besides your Life Path and Birthday number, also very important to discover your (next) profession or career path! This number represents the way you express, develop, and grow yourself using your God-gifted talents, skills, personal traits, and all your abilities throughout your lifetime. This can be on the personal or professional front. It reveals how you express yourself through, e.g., a hobby, a passion project, your profession/career, or relationships. For instance, if your Expression number is 3 (ruled by Jupiter), you would express yourself in a typical Jupiterian fashion, which can be through creative writing, singing, speaking, teaching, preaching, and guiding others. It could also be through adventurous sports and physical activities. You could also be very social, and outgoing and be very flamboyant in the way you express yourself. You would have an interest in travel, foreign cultures, religions, and various philosophies of the world, and the way you speak would be very enticing, full of knowledge and wisdom.
Side Note: In numerology, some numbers are calculated using the letters in your name. The Expression number is one of them. In order to calculate your Expression number, you need your full name according to your birth certificate (first, middle, and last). *This calculation is complex, as it’s based on the numerical value of each letter in your name. These days, you can get this done using a numerology software program. However, to keep your life simple, you can click on this blog post so you can learn how to calculate your Expression number manually.
That’s it! These are the only three numbers you would need to discover your (next) career and professional path! When you mix all three, you will learn a lot about your characteristics, the talents you naturally possess, the skills you can develop, and the path you need to take to express yourself wholeheartedly, so you can be the best you can be. Your Expression and Birthday number can help you fulfill your life’s path (destiny). Thus, if you want to understand your purpose and career path in a simplified manner, and care little about the rest of the numbers in your chart, then these three personal core numbers (Birthday, Life Path, and Expression) are sufficient.
Add Astrology to the mix to find a suitable career path or industry
Nice to know: If you are in your 30s or 40s and thinking about making a career switch, you may also want to look at your Maturity number. It represents the number that will influence you as you grow and mature in life. At the same time, it can give you that extra boost and motivation you need to begin that next step in your (career) life. This number becomes active from your mid-30s onwards. But it can also start from the moment you hit your Saturn Return (between 28 and 31) and gradually build up to your 36th year (around your 35th birthday). In Vedic astrology, this phenomenon is better known as the maturity age of Saturn. To learn about the Maturity number in numerology, click here. Now, if you want to add some astrology to the mix and find out what type of job you should do next or what kind of industry would suit you the best, then take a good look at your astrological placements. Find out in which house (from 1-12) and zodiac sign the planets Mercury, Moon, and Ketu (South Node of the Moon) reside in your birth chart. Why these three planets? Because Mercury represents your hobbies, interests, learning ability, and practical skills. The Moon symbolizes your emotions and feelings, including your emotional connection and reaction to people, places, and things. Ketu symbolizes your past life experiences, including your hidden knowledge and talents—it represents those things your soul is already familiar with and that you’ve already experienced in a previous life (so it comes naturally to you). So, once you know in which house and sign these three planets are placed in your chart, you will get clues on what industry or field you should focus on and what skills and talents you need to develop. Many astrologers would say that you should look at the 2nd, 6th, and 10th houses to determine a person’s vocation or how one would make money, which is true at some level. But as mentioned earlier, I like to simplify things. Besides, we live in a time where people change jobs, occupations, careers, and fields every day. The world has so much to offer and this can make things confusing. Nonetheless, if it’s written in your chart that you will follow one career path or work in one specific industry your entire life, then no one can change that destiny, except a higher power that is bigger than our human mind can comprehend.
Last but not least: if you want to know the best time to look for a new job or make a career switch, your Personal Years and Personal Months could provide you with some valuable insights.
I hope this helps.
