What can you expect in a Personal Year 1?

You are at the start of a brand-new nine-year cycle. Gone with the old and in with the new! This should be your personal mantra as you kick off your new cycle that will last for nine years. In case you left your Personal Year 9 (ruled by Mars) feeling all drained, depleted, and perhaps burned out; now you may rise again from whatever dark place you were in. So, hopefully, you have found some closure because, in this new year, you will get the chance to reboot your life and start afresh! You may experience a shift in energy that could make you feel all charged up and fired up to move things forward. This energizing shift could influence the way you think and feel about yourself. Your outlook on life might change, and you could even see yourself in an entirely new light. Though there is a slight warning; you might not feel this new burst of energy and excitement right off the bat. This energetic vibrational shift may not happen as soon as the clock strikes midnight and the fireworks go off. Instead, things could just gradually change and improve as days and weeks go by. Nevertheless, a Personal Year 1, ruled by the Sun, is an exciting, innovative, and accelerating time in which the Universe may provide you with various opportunities so you can reclaim your independence (if you’ve lost it or forgotten who you are), and become the authority in your life again. Common themes and matters pertaining to the behavioral qualities, planetary energies, and signification of the Sun will highlight the year, like the ones mentioned above. But the energies that may dominate the start of your cycle more prominently, will be in the area of your self-expression, creative pursuits, recreational activities, talent and personality development, ambitions, long-term goals, health, and well-being. In addition, your ability to reawaken your soul and reconnect with your playful inner child may also come forth, so you can bring about newness and manifest your true heart’s desires.

A Personal Year 1 is, without a doubt, a year of new beginnings! It is such an energizing time when you want to break free, reinvent yourself, rediscover new things about yourself, and take as many risks as possible to pursue your ambitions and realize your dreams. But before you take the plunge and jump into any major risks, it may be a good idea to first think about what you really want in life, whether that is for yourself and/or your family. You can start by creating a list of all your dreams, hopes, wishes, and desires. Then carefully identify your motivations behind these needs and follow it up with a well-thought-out plan to bring it all into manifestation. Here are some questions to consider now, and may also come to mind around this time as you carefully create your wish list:

Who am I? What are my hobbies and interests? What do I enjoy doing for fun, and why? What interests me the most in life? What drives me, and why? What am I passionate about, and why? Who or what fills my heart with joy and laughter, and why? What gets me up in the morning and gets me through the day? What are the things that set my soul on fire, and why? What or who inspires me, and why? What does my heart truly desire? Is it something of material or immaterial value? Is it something that only benefits me or others as well? What is that one thing I have always wanted to do, but never got the chance to make it happen? And what has stopped me from pursuing that which I desire? What are the things that I want to accomplish before my soul leaves this earth, and what do I need to do now in order to bring it all to fruition?

The answers to these questions will help you gain a clearer insight into your soul’s utmost desires, including a possible new direction. But if you do not have any ambitions and goals, or you are not sure which way to go, then take some time out and do an assessment of the things you like and dislike, or make a list of the things you want to improve, change, or excel in. You may want to create a Personal SWOT analysis in which you outline and analyze your talents, skills, strengths, and weaknesses/areas of development. Based on this, here are some further questions to tackle:

What are the things I like and dislike doing? Do I prefer doing things on my own or with others? Do I enjoy doing things for others or just for myself? Do I enjoy doing things indoors or outdoors? Do I prefer an active or a sedentary lifestyle? Am I at peace with myself and my everyday surroundings? Is there anything I would like to change or improve about myself or my current situation? If so, what are these things? Am I comfortable in my own skin and satisfied with the way I look? Do I still like my job, career, or the city where I live? Am I happy with all my relationships, both personal and professional? How can I make my life more meaningful and fulfilling? Is there something lacking in my life? And if so, what can I do to change how I feel? Do I enjoy learning new things? If so, what would I like to learn now? Is there anything I need to improve on? Am I content with the skills and talents I possess, or should I learn and develop newer ones? What is my biggest talent, and what can I do to bring it out into the world?

Once you have carefully re-assessed yourself and your personal situation, you will then be able to take the necessary and courageous steps to help move your life forward.

This year is all about engaging yourself in new endeavors and starting new ventures and adventures. In case you find it difficult to get yourself motivated, pumped up, and get things going, then turn to that place inside yourself. Listen to your intuition, your inner voice. You know that gut feeling you sometimes have, but choose to ignore instead? Well, this is a perfect time to listen to it, and follow that voice, because it will give you some pointers that may be helpful. Apart from that, you may want to connect or reconnect with your inner child (if you haven’t done so in a while), as it can give you some insights into those things you have always loved and enjoyed doing. At times, we get so caught up with the busyness of life that we forget to enjoy it. We forget that we once were children with beautiful dreams and wild, creative imaginations. We get so busy living the ‘adult life’ that we forget to have fun, play more (e.g., with children), and pursue those beautiful dreams. Sometimes, we even become afraid or ashamed of pursuing those things we have always wanted since we were nine years old. But once you allow yourself to tap into your inner child, that part of yourself you probably thought didn’t exist anymore, you may discover that there is more to you than the image you portray to the outside world and that there is more to life than being serious all the time. Tapping into the core of your soul may even help you discover new things about yourself and unlock your creative, childlike side, which could lead to new ambitions. Besides getting in tune with your playful self; pay attention to the little signs and symbols that the Universe may provide you with. Sometimes these tiny little signs can serve as a guide to help you take inspired actions toward pursuing your heart’s desires. All you have to do is to take a moment, be still, go within, and then go with what you hear and feel. Now, if you are not in tune with yourself, your intuition, or your surroundings and don’t know who you are, it is always wise to consult with a professional (e.g., a life coach or therapist) or talk to someone you trust (e.g., a family member or teacher). Having a conversation with them on a regular basis can help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and develop more of your identity so you can enhance your existence in this world in the best way possible. Whichever way you choose to get in touch with your soul and whatever aspirations you have, know that the Universe will support you, so do not be afraid to take a leap of faith. Do not be afraid to dream big! This is a time to be bold and brave without being overconfident, of course. The Universe encourages you to go out into the world, try out different things, explore unknown territories, and dive into those ventures that may even look daunting at first. But whatever you decide to dive into, go with what’s inside your heart, put things into action, and follow through! Especially those things you have put on the back burner for a while or have always dreamt of doing.

New starts, new journeys, and new initiatives can happen in various ways and in different areas of your life; from starting a new hobby, fitness plan, romantic relationship, family, job, or business, to moving cities, buying land, and building your dream house. Perhaps you decide to join a political party as the leader, enroll in a new study program, write a blog that enables you to express yourself creatively and uniquely, or you might just pack your bags and make a trip around the world. You might adopt a completely new mindset, an alternative lifestyle, or a healthier way of living, and start running marathons. Or if you’ve always wanted to change your name, you can begin the process so you can claim your new identity. And if skydiving, bungee jumping, or performing on a big stage in front of a large audience (as a singer, dancer, or actor) has always been your heart’s desire, this may be your daredevil moment to put things in motion and showcase your skills and (artistic) talents to the world. Anything is possible! Just keep in mind that those things you start now and the decisions you make will also set the tone for your entire nine-year cycle. Because this is a seed-planting year. In a literal sense, you could find yourself planting actual seeds to grow your own crops at home. But figuratively speaking, you may find that the things you implement throughout these twelve months may not only follow you but also run like a common thread that will develop and grow over the next nine years. Thus, the more seeds you plant (or the more things you try out), the more opportunities you can create for future growth.

However, sometimes life can be a bit confusing, especially when you have many options to choose from. But if you tap into the energy of the number 1, i.e. the Sun, you will focus on the right seeds from the start. The key is to only choose the things that set your soul on fire! Only focus on long-term goals you can work on throughout your entire nine-year cycle. This way, you don’t have to put too much pressure on yourself to finish everything within a year’s time. Besides, life doesn’t always go as planned. So, if, for example, your goal is to publish a book with seven chapters, create a plan and schedule that allows you to work on a chapter a year. And by the time you’ve reached your year of harvest, which is a Personal Year 8 (ruled by Saturn), you can publish it successfully. Or, if you want to own a vacation home overseas, make sure you have the financial side ready before you even start looking for the perfect land or architect who could help you build your dream in, for example, your Personal Year 4 (ruled by Rahu). Whatever new intention or goal you have set for yourself in this brand-new year, make sure you carefully assess it and think things through. Because everything you start now could affect you throughout the rest of your cycle.

At times, you might feel tempted to go back to the old things and the people you have left behind in your previous cycle, especially when you’re afraid to start something new. For example, if you ended a career or relationship in a Personal Year 7 or 9, you might still find it difficult to accept your current situation. However, keep in mind that the reason these things and people are no longer part of your existence is that your karma with them is over. So, if you really want to move forward and want something new to come forth, you have to come to terms with your past and accept your new reality for what it is. Understand that your past only serves as a reference for you to see how far you have come, how much you have grown, and how far you can go – nothing more and nothing less. Thus, when you find yourself contemplating the past and all its familiarity, turn off that switch immediately! Redirect your thoughts to your present and channel them towards activities in which you can express yourself creatively and artistically (e.g., writing, painting, filmmaking, photographing, drawing, sewing, baking, singing, dancing). Or get into some physical exercise (e.g., walking, cycling, jogging, fitness, swimming) to help you relax and clear your mind.

This year is not only an action-packed time with many new starts and inventions, but it is also one in which you will choose your independence. Because you will go off on your own to pursue your dreams, goals, ambitions, and happiness. In a way, you can consider this as quite a self-focused and selfish time, however, people will notice you more so than ever. Suddenly, you might light up like sunshine, for better or worse. But how you may come across and how others may eventually perceive you will depend on your attitude, actions, and behavior. Nonetheless, this sudden change and light within you could reflect in various ways. For instance, there could be a significant change in your appearance, for a variety of reasons; from being pregnant, and having a more toned and fit body, to having cosmetic surgery done and rocking a new, trendy hairstyle. On a different note, you might be put in the spotlight and applauded by others for something extra special. For example, your family might throw you a surprise birthday party, you could graduate from college or be the star of a new show, receive an award for your contribution and service to humanity, or you could finally get your big career break and the positive recognition you deserve. Your status in society could surge now or you could set off on an entirely different career path, which may turn heads. Alternatively, you could invent or build something original that stands out from the crowd, or you might break a new world record in, for example, athletics. On a negative note, you might do or say something in public (e.g. social media, at work) that could create unwanted attention, unnecessary drama, or, worst-case scenario, damage your reputation. Whatever situation you may find yourself in, just know that your light will shine brightly.

Though you may be more in the limelight than you perhaps wished for, you still want to be careful with the way you say or do things, especially when you are in the same room as other people. Since you will be under the influence of the Sun, there is a tendency to grow a big ego, more so than necessary. So, if you always act out of self-interest, love competing with others, enjoy being the best at everything, and don’t care about other people’s well-being, then be extra careful. Watch your attitude, avoid selfishness, and keep your ego in check! In addition, remain cordial with everyone in your day-to-day life; from your teammates and employees to your loved ones. In addition, avoid being too self-consumed or arrogant, or else you might burn your relationships. It is okay to take some time for yourself and focus on your ambitious goals, but not if it negatively affects your relationship with others. In this Sun-ruled ego-driven period, it is imperative that you strive for a healthy balance in everything you do and refrain from unethical practices, as this may impede your success. Hence, do not misuse your power or position, and do not walk all over others, just to push your agenda because everything you do will come back to you. Your (negative) karma will meet you in the future, so be mindful of your intentions, actions, and behavior toward your fellow human beings.

As the year of new beginnings, there is, unfortunately, a slight possibility of encounters with people who might not be supportive of your new endeavors, lifestyle, or persona. But whatever you have going on in your life, do not let others rain on your parade and dim your light! Understand that they have their own cycle and karma to deal with. They have problems of their own, and other things going on in their lives. Thus, try to stay away from naysayers, i.e., those negative-minded people who will criticize everything you do and will do anything to limit your growth. Always be very protective of your energy and be mindful of who or what you spend it on. In case you find yourself in a situation that drains your soul and where people are constantly bringing you down, handle it peacefully or walk away. Do not let other people’s negative energy or opinions of you stop you from being you. Instead, adopt a positive mindset, and surround yourself with those who genuinely support you, your way of thinking, and your ambitions. When you surround yourself with positive-minded people, you will feel more energized, inspired, and confident to work on your goals. In addition, you will feel more protected from attracting the wrong crowds with the wrong intentions.

Since the Sun symbolizes fatherhood, men, and strong masculine energy; you could experience certain events and challenges in relation to either your own father, a fatherly figure, or just men in general (e.g. at work or in your social circle). This might require a lot of your attention, so much so that it could mentally, emotionally, or physically drain you, especially if you don’t take any necessary precautions concerning your health. Alternatively, you might grow into fatherhood or parenthood yourself, literally or figurately. In a figurative sense, you could adopt a dog and thus become a pet parent. Or, in a literal sense, if you have ever considered foster parenting or having children of your own, your wish could get fulfilled now, or you may start the process to make it happen. And if you already have adult children, chances are that you could become a grandparent. On a different note, you might have to deal with someone who gives off a lot of strong male energy, which could get on your last nerves. But it could also be you who acts too “fatherly”, authoritative, dominant, and a bit too strict than usual, which could create some tension in your direct environment. If the latter is the case, then watch your behavior. Be mindful of how you may come across to others – whether on the personal or professional front – and how you react to those who may come off a bit too strong or ‘bossy’ for your taste. Always try to incorporate some diplomacy when the situation calls for it.

A Personal Year 1 is ultimately a very fast-paced time in which the Universe will increase the desire for you to make a fresh new start in your life’s journey. The Sun’s influence will fuel you with tons of positive energy and provide you with many chances and opportunities to create something new, whatever that may be. Just make sure that those things you initiate are a true representation and expression of your soul. And by the end of the year, you may find that the more you do what brings you joy and express yourself from the core of your being, the more your personality and uniqueness will shine through, and the more positive energy you will attract. In case you are clueless about what you should do at the start of your brand-new nine-year cycle, listen to your heart, as it will help you identify which direction to take and what initiative you should undertake. Or in the words of Rumi; * “Your heart knows the way. Run in that direction.”

Side Note: The examples mentioned for each Personal Year are merely examples based on my personal experience and observational research, and might not apply to your personal situation entirely. However, if you relate to some events, then they could have happened in a previous cycle already, or you might go through some of them right now. And if you do not relate to any of the events pertaining to your present cycle, then they may have yet to be manifested in the future. It is all possible. But keep in mind that in order to understand your Personal Year, you should know the meaning of the planets in Astrology. Simply because each year is influenced by a certain planet. Once you have a basic understanding of the astrological significations of the planets and their association with the numbers in numerology, it will be easier for you to see how the energies may play out in your own life. In addition, having some self-awareness about your own behavioral pattern can also help you work better with the energies instead of fighting against them.
