You’ve heard this saying before; History always repeats itself. Numerology can demonstrate this. It can demonstrate how certain events and circumstances repeat themselves throughout your lifetime, in cycles of nine years. However, events don’t just happen, nor by accident or coincidence. Things don’t just magically repeat themselves. Instead, things happen because people make them happen, whether consciously or unconsciously. When you seriously take a look at everything that has happened in your life thus far, you will find that most situations, whether you’ve viewed them as a positive or a negative experience, were actually nothing more than a result of your actions. And your actions are nothing more than a reflection of how you perceive yourself. Hence, self-awareness is key for self-improvement, as it affects the way you think, act, and behave. Namely, when you are self-aware and understand yourself, including your personality, emotions, feelings, thoughts, and motives for behavior, you tend to make better decisions. But when you lack self-awareness and live life cluelessly, i.e. like a headless chicken, you tend to make the same mistakes over and over again. This can make things feel and look quite repetitive. And who wants to live life on repeat?
Now, in order to prevent yourself from constantly repeating history and thus your life story, Personal Years can be of tremendous help. Understanding the concept of Personal Years can help you see how things work in a mathematical repetitive nine-year cycle. In case you’re new to numerology, then I’d suggest reading my introductory Predictive Numerology 101 post. In there, I explain the difference between Personal Years vs Universal Years, including how important it is to pay careful attention to the numerical and planetary energies that dominate your Personal Year – as these may have a significant influence on your psyche, behavior, and decision-making, for better or worse. But when you raise your consciousness, become more self-aware and understand the workings of the Universe through your own Personal Year numbers, it can help you identify your own behavioral patterns, learn from your mistakes and hopefully not repeat them. This can, ultimately, help you make better decisions and progress, instead of getting yourself stuck in a life of repetition.
As a continuation of my previous post, I will now share three very important things to be mindful of when dealing and working with the energies that influence and highlight your Personal Years. Knowing these key things, which I will explain next, will enable you to better cope with the various challenges, obstacles, and opportunities that each year may bring – be it a Personal Year 1, 4, 6, or 9.
Let’s start with the most important one.
1. Look back at your past cycles to understand your present
There is an ancient Buddhist saying (by Majjhima Nikāya) that goes like this;
“If you want to know the past, to know what has caused you, look at yourself in the present, for that is the pasts effect. If you want to know your future, then look at yourself in the present, for that is the cause of the future.”
In other words, the best way to understand the energies of your current Personal Year is to look back at your actions and behavior of your past Personal Years of a previous cycle. And if you want to understand what’s ahead of you, in your upcoming Personal Year (s), then pay attention to your actions now, as these will determine how your future year (s) will play out. I know it can be a long walk down memory lane. However, once you’re able to decipher what was going on in your life in previous years, you can better prepare yourself for what’s coming and refrain from possible repetitive behavior. By looking back at your past cycles, you can find out more about your mental, emotional and entire psychological state and compare it to your current situation. This way you can see whether or not you have learned your lessons from your past actions and experiences.
Now, to understand the energies of your upcoming Personal Year, all you have to do is to count back nine years. Because in numerology everything goes in cycles of nine. So if, for example, 2022 will be a Personal Year 5 for you, then the year 2013 was a Personal Year 5 for you as well. Why? Because 2022 – 9 = 20213. So what does this mean? Well, it simply means that in 2022 you will feel similar energies and experience events pertaining to the number 5 again, which is associated with the planet Mercury. In this case, you might experience mercurial-related (sudden) events, opportunities, and challenges in relation to communication, short-distance travel, transportation, your neighborhood, neighbors, siblings, close friends, media, business, financial matters, new adventures, and new learning experiences.
You can do this simple exercise for any of your Personal Year numbers; always count back nine years. You can even go back further, to other past nine-year cycles. This will help you get a better understanding of your personal patterns. Even when you were a child, the same numerical vibrations and planetary energies will apply. They just play out differently. In case you can’t remember what was going on in your life nine years ago, then here are a few tips: Check your old bank statements, personal documents, CV/resume, social media accounts, computer, old hard disk, old photo albums, old mobile phones, and even old emails. These things can help refresh your memory and give you a good indication of what was going on in your previous life cycles – on an emotional, mental and physical level. This also includes the way you felt, how you reacted to things, how you looked (your appearance), where you lived, the job you were in, and the people you interacted with. All these factors can be of help as you do some self-reflection and analyze your current state of being and compare it to your past.
What you have to be mindful of is that your current year (or the one you’re about to enter) is often a reflection of previous Personal Years. You will feel similar energies related to the number and planet that dominates or influences the year you are in. So, if you don’t want to repeat a certain event you’ve already experienced in a previous cycle, then it is better to become aware of your actions now. Or else you may have to go through a similar situation again, making the same decisions, dealing with the same people, and making mistakes you thought you wouldn’t repeat. That is why, every single year, it is so important to take some time out and do some self-examination. Recognize and understand your past and present behavior, and see if there is a repeating pattern going on. If this is the case, then you may have some work to do. Recognizing your personal patterns can help you identify certain lessons about your own behavior that require your attention, and still need to learn. At the same time, it can help you improve and work on those areas you were unaware of.
So, wherever you are in your nine-year cycle, be it a Personal Year 5 or 8, always ask yourself this: Am I improving myself, or am I repeating my past? The answer to this question, through some self-reflection, will reveal what needs to change and improve before you can move forward.
I know it can take up a lot of time and energy to dig into your past, but once you’ve done your research, your future self will thank you tremendously.
This brings me to the second point.
2. Pay attention when transitioning from an old to a new Personal Year
There is a debate in the world of numerology regarding the start and end date of one’s Personal Year. Some numerologists say that the Personal Year runs from birthday to birthday. Others say that it starts on January 1st and ends on December 31st, just like a Universal (calendar) Year. From my personal experience and observations, I can attest that a Personal Year runs from January to December and not from birthday to birthday. However, there is a specific transit cycle in numerology that runs from birthday to birthday and therefore coincides with your Personal Year. You can read about it here.
To come back to my point; I have noticed that the last three months of your current Personal Year can often give you a sign of how you will start the first three months of your next Personal Year. For example, when you’re about to transition from the year 2021 to 2022, you can feel the new energies of the year 2022 already coming in during the months of October, November, and December 2021. Let’s say that 2021 is a Personal 5 for you, and 2022 will be a Personal Year 6. Towards the end of 2021, you may suddenly feel like spending more time at home with your loved ones, and by the time 2022 arrives, you may find yourself at home, perhaps unemployed and working on your own business. Or you may feel like the place that you previously called home, in fact, no longer feels like home. So by the end of your Personal Year 5 (2021), you may make plans to move, and once you’re in a Personal Year 6 (2022), you may find yourself in a completely different home and city. In another scenario: let’s say 2021 is your Personal Year 6 and 2022 will be your Personal Year 7. This could mean that by December 2021 you might feel that certain relationships, either personal or professional, no longer add value to your life. By the time March 2022 arrives, you might have to let go of certain people e.g., co-workers, business partners, romantic partners, friends, and family members. You might also have a sudden urge to let go of certain bad habits, addictions, phobias, dreams, and aspirations.
These are just simple examples. Nevertheless, if you want to know what’s in store for you, then pay attention to the last three months (October–December) of any given year to feel the new energies of the following year. This way you can prepare yourself better for any new opportunities, challenges, or obstacles that may arise suddenly.
The below illustrates the arrival of new energies in an old Personal Year.
What I’ve also observed is that throughout the first three months (January-March) of any new year, you can feel both the energies of the old Personal Year and the new Personal Year. However, the old energies fade away and the new ones are slowly getting their strength during the first three months of any new year. And from April until September of your new Personal Year, you can feel the energies in full effect. The below illustrates this.
As you can see, there is actually a six-month transition period between the old and the new Personal Year, from October until March.
Also, be mindful of the fact that every Personal Year within a nine-year cycle comes with its own lessons, and each new year is a continuation of the previous. In order to withstand the fresh energies of any new Personal Year, take along the lessons learned from the previous year. If, for instance, you’re heading towards a Personal Year 6, then take whatever valuable lessons you have learned during a Personal Year 5 with you, because you might need it.
This brings me to my third point.
3. Incorporate and work with the energies of the Universal Year
Although you may feel the energies of a Personal Year more strongly than that of a Universal Year, however, you can’t have one without the other. You still need the Universal Year in order to understand the patterns and cycles of life. For example, if you are in a Personal Year 5 (of unpredictable change, exploration, and progress) within a Universal Year 4 (of expansion, improvements, reorganization, and rebuilding stable foundations), you can actually work with both energetic numbers to help you get through the year. A Personal Year 5 (ruled by Mercury) can sometimes be a very unsettling and restless, energetic vibration. The number 4, which is ruled by Rahu, can also have a negative influence as well. However, Rahu has a dual nature. If you use the positive side of the number 4, then its energies can help you achieve a lot, but only when you do things in a more constructive, step-by-step, and organized manner using ethical practical practices, and tons of patience. This can ease out the unsettled energy of your Personal Year 5 when you work with the Universal Year 4. Hence, it is very important to have a good understanding of the numbers, including the planetary energies in order for you to make the best out of your Personal Year while you incorporate and work with the energies of the Universal Year as well.
Sometimes a Personal Year can have the same number as a Universal Year. For example, you could be in a Personal Year 2 within a Universal Year 2, or a Personal Year 5 within a Universal Year 5. This can be quite intense, especially when you’re in a month that carries the same number as the Personal Year and Universal Year, which, in fact, always happens in September – the month where things usually come to a culmination point. However, the way these double or triple energies may pan out in your life depends on how you react to the challenges and opportunities that the Universe may throw at you. But the best thing you can do is to keep a positive mindset and stay centered at all times. Work with the energies instead of fighting against them.
So, these are the three important things to keep in mind when working with the energies of your Personal Years. Whatever Personal Year cycle you find yourself in, remember that everything happens according to Divine timing, orchestration, and co-creation with the Universe.
Edit: In addition to the points already mentioned above, there’s actually another point that I think is just as important. What I’ve personally experienced and observed so far is that sometimes the energies of your Personal Year do not always influence you alone but they may also have a significant influence on the lives of those close to you, especially when you are always around them and share the same space. These people could be your friends, siblings, lovers, relatives, or even colleagues. For instance, when you’re in a Personal Year 4 (ruled by Rahu), and your partner is in a Personal Year 7 (ruled by Ketu), some of the energies and themes that would normally influence you alone, may have an impact on your significant other as well. It could also be the other way around, and hence your partner’s Personal Year energies could have an influence on the way you do certain things in your day-to-day. This can be a positive or a negative experience. It all depends on how conscious, alert, and aware you are.
