To put it simply, ‘Astro-Numerology’ is astrology and numerology combined. You may not find this terminology in the dictionary, however, it is a term that I prefer to describe both worlds coming together as one. On the one hand, you have numbers, and on the other hand, you have the planets and the stars. When you mix them all together, you have fusion food for the soul!

I have created Thursdayinaugust.com to express not only my passion for numbers as a tool for personal development and self-improvement, but also to share the significance and relationship between both esoteric sciences. Namely, astrology and numerology go hand-in-hand. You can’t really rule out one without the other. If you really want to understand the workings of numerology, it is important to learn at least the basics of astrology, i.e., familiarize yourself with the houses, zodiac signs, and planets. This is because the energetic vibrations behind the nine numbers in numerology actually stem from the behavioral qualities of the nine planets used in Vedic Astrology, which is my preferred astrology system.

When I first started learning Western numerology, the meaning behind the numbers meant little sense to me. It was all too superficial, and it lacked depth. But when I blend it with Vedic astrology, everything clicked! I personally combine Western (Greek) numerology with basic Vedic (Indian) astrology principles. Hence, I use the nine planets a.k.a. Navagraha (Surya-Sun, Chandra-Moon, Mangala-Mars, Budha-Mercury, Guru-Jupiter, Shukra-Venus, Shani-Saturn, Rahu & Ketu) as a base for understanding the deeper meaning, energetic vibration, behavioral qualities, and influence of the numbers one to nine. Therefore, you will come across a lot of astrological references on this site.

If you’re a student of both arts, you may find that they’re pretty similar. However, astrology, especially the Vedic system, is quite complex when it comes to calculations. In addition, Vedic astrological concepts like Dashas (the planetary time period that influences our lives), Vargas (divisional charts), Nakshatras (lunar mansions), and Karakas (significators of planets and how they influence our lives) can make things even more complex. That said, the Western numerology system is very easy to learn, and you don’t have to be a math guru to understand its calculations and concepts. In terms of forecasts and prediction, I have to admit that there is a limit to numerology, but that doesn’t mean one tool is better than the other. When you have some knowledge of both, and pay careful attention to the universal energies, you may find that your Personal Years, for example, are often in alignment with major planetary transits, such as that of Rahu/Ketu (North Node/South Node), Jupiter, and Saturn. For instance, you might be in a Personal Year 6 (ruled by Venus), while Rahu transits your 6th house and Ketu your 12th house as per your astrological birth chart. What does that mean? Well, this cycle and karmic transit combination could help you remove various obstructions from your life so you can realign yourself and become the most productive you’ve ever been. Certain key areas in your life could get activated in relation to your health, healing, service, work, family, home, value system, and all kinds of relations with other people, whether good or bad. During this period, you might have to let go of certain unhealthy relationships that no longer add value to your life, or you might have to get rid of old habits and a lifestyle that does not serve your purpose. At the same time, you could become highly creative and extremely productive in your day-to-day routines; you may get a sudden urge to organize things, do more cleaning around the house, and be more of service to others (even if they get on your nerves sometimes). You might also create a new nutrition and workout plan to improve your overall health and mental well-being or establish a new future career and financial goals for yourself while striving to create a healthy, holistic balance between your home and work life.

Apart from the Personal Years and planetary transit alignments, Personal Core numbers may also have a strong connection with other important aspects of an astrological birth chart. For example, your Life Path, Expression, or Birthday (Psychic) number may be linked to either your ascendant/rising, sun, or moon sign. In my case, for instance, I am a Sagittarius ascendant. My astrology chart ruler, Jupiter, (the ruling planet of my ascendant) is also my Expression number, which says a lot about my personality, and how I express myself in the world through my talents, skills, and just my entire demeanor. Another example is that of my Atma karaka, aka my soul planet, the reason for my being and the planet with the highest degree, which sits in the 10th house of my chart. The planet that represents my Atma karaka, the Moon, is also linked to my Birthday (Psychic) number. This says a lot about my personality and my innate talents; the things that come naturally to me. Thus, my natural talents, skills, and traits, represented by my Atma karaka and Birthday number, can be very beneficial to my career and my role in society—if used constructively, consciously, and wisely. In addition, using my Moon-like qualities and talents for the betterment and improvement of society (10th house) would make my Atma (soul) very happy.

To some extent, your Heart’s Desire (Soul Urge) number could also match your Dara karaka: the planet with the lowest degree and the type of spouse/life partner you feel attracted to (which is also based on your personality and lifestyle). Obviously, this differs from person to person, and birth chart to birth chart. However, I just want to point out, in a simplified manner, how you can combine numerology with astrology; either through your Personal Year cycles or through your personal numbers (e.g. Life Path, Birthday, Expression, Karmic Lesson, Heart’s Desire, etc.).

SMALL DISCLAIMER: You should never draw your conclusions based on just one or two planetary or numerological placements. Always study your chart from all angles, because you are more than one number, and one simple planetary placement doesn’t give you the full picture of your being. The most important thing is that you understand the relationship between numbers and their associated planetary energy, so you can apply it in your own life. Once you notice how both your astrological and numerological birth charts are connected with one another, things will become much clearer. You may even find that there are no coincidences in life. Ultimately, you will gain a more in-depth and soulful understanding of the ‘whys’, ‘when’, and ‘wherefores’ of your existence, including your behavioral patterns and personality traits.
